a lover of all things vintage: especially film photography

As a millennial, living in the era of amazing digital cameras, I could not be more obsessed with film photography. This year I began shooting with a Holga 120N and then recently purchased a Canon FT. With the Canon FT, I started shooting with Tri-X 400. To say I am obsessed is an understatement. Period (t). I LOVE black and white images, however, I tend to not enjoy them when they are shot digitally. I crave the nostalgia of black and white film photos. I look forward to trying color film in this camera, however the black and white is perfection. When I received the images back from the photo lab (Flats) I gasped and squealed. The photos have a silencing effect. I want to describe these photos as silencing, no noise (pun not intended). The black and white, the lack of color, truly draws your attention to the emotion felt in the image. The contrast is just amazing! I would love to connect with other photographers utilizing film in their work. If you have any suggestions of amazing film photographers, send them my way! I cannot wait until my next session to shoot more film and see what we can create! I specialize in family photos but I also shoot elopements and I cannot imagine the emotion to be felt in a film photo from my next elopement!!

If you were to ask me my inspiration for family photography, I would hands down state John F. Kennedy family photos, especially at their compound in Hyannis Port. The vast majority of the images I have seen are in black and white and you don’t even notice that because all you see is pure emotion. It’s breathtaking. It’s truly art captured by fantastic photographers who I hope to emulate. Please tell me I’m not the only one obsessed with the nostalgia! Why shoot film when we can easily take perfectly crystal clear images? Great question! Because a crystal clear image can sometimes distract from the emotion to be felt from the love exhibited by the family
